When visiting Salt Fork Cabins at Winterset, you, and your friends and family are approximately 2.5 miles from the entrance to the enchanting Salt Fork State Park where there is open hunting, beaches, marinas to rent water crafts, fishing, golfing, horseback riding, wildlife watching, hiking, and more.

Salt Fork Reservoir is a water sports haven for motor boating, water skiing, wave runners.  This unlimited horsepower inland lake allows for fast running fun.

Canoeing and kayaking are also popular ways to travel the waterways to ensure the beauty of the park.

Ohio Hunting and Trapping - DNR

Sportsmen come from near and far to experience sport game fishing and hunting at Salt Fork State Park.  Anglers enjoy large populations of largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegills.  Walleyes and muskellunge are also popular sport fish in this bountiful Ohio inland lake.

Ohio white tail deer hunting is a favorite for the sportsmen in this area.  Both shotgun and archery season bring link the trophy bucks for this area of Ohio.  Wild turkey, grouse, and quail are popular game for upland game bird hunting.  Small game in the area includes cotton tail rabbit, gray and fox squirrels.  Other small game hunted and bagged in the area are raccoon, woodchuck and beaver.

Salt Fork State Park Golf Course

The rolling terrain of the area offers some of the most challenging and beautiful golf courses in the area.  The area offers multiple 18+ hole golf courses, driving ranges, and miniature golf courses for all skill levels.  Visit the Salt Fork Golf Course or play a number of other public and semi-private courses near Salt Fork Cabins.

The Wilds - The Wilds, located near Cumberland, Ohio, is one of the largest and most innovative conservation centers in the world. Spanning 14 square miles of reclaimed surface mined land, the Wilds seeks to advance conservation through science, education, and personal experience. Visitors choose from comfortable air-conditioned transports with spacious or custom open-air transports for a guided tour where they see Asian, African, and North American wildlife roaming freely in large, natural habitats. Rhinos, giraffes, and zebras graze peacefully near the antelope, bison, and other species. Visitors learn about the animals and the issues affecting their survival. Oglebay Festival of Lights

Wheeling, WV - November 8th January 7th. In 1985 a holiday tradition began at Oglebay and spread throughout the city of Wheeling. That tradition is the Winter Festival of Lights celebration. The first year, displays and landscape lighting covered about 125 acres over a three-mile drive throughout the resort. Since then, the show has grown into one of the nation's largest Christmas light shows, covering more than three hundred acres over a six-mile drive throughout the resort.
